The Hepworth Gallery Photographic Competition

The competition is in conjunction with The Hepworth Gallery in Wakefield and their current exhibition of photographer Martin Parr's work.

Students were invited to take a documentary style photograph around the theme of 'My Secret Wakefield' and submit them with the hopes of entering the wider compeition at The Hepworth. We were allowed to enter two categories, KS3 and KS4.

We had 14 entrants in total with the main competition in KS3! Judged by the department for entry to the Hepworth, 3 students were selected from KS3 and one from KS4 entries. The winning entrants are as follows

Leon Davies 7CR
Eliose Lovell 8ADu
Holly Langfeild 9ATL
Abbie Hudson 11SHn

These four photos will now go on display at the Hepworth Gallery alongside Martin Parrs work and be open to voting from the public to enter the next stage of the competition. If they get through the public vote, the overall winner will be chosen by the artist himself to win a prize for not only the entrant, but for their school too.

Share Peace 13/11/15

We just wanted to share with you a competition that six of our Art Club students have entered. The competition is part of a national competition to celebrate peace around the world. We were asked by the Pontefract Lioness Club if we could submit some entries on the theme of 'Share Peace'. Six girls entered, submitted posters which had to be bigger than A3 size! They have worked for weeks after school, at home and during some lunch times to get them done!  The girls were Malaika Ali, Charlotte Dransfield and Ivy Cain Ward in year 7 and Ellie Stocks, Ellanna Duncan and Eve Rogerson in year 8.

The winner was chosen last night by the Lionesses and is now going to be entred into the regional competition, where, if chosen it will then be submitted into the national competition! The winning poster was created by Malaika Ali in year 7 and she was won a £25 gift voucher for her winning entry! Her work will go up in the coal mining museum to be judged for the national entries.

The posters are shown here:-

Stop the Clock Day

On Stop the Clock Day the Art Department worked with a group of learners who used everyday rubbish to produce city silhouettes. They needed to consider shape and light to get the right effects. Some even were innovative enough to punch holes in boxes to give the illusion of windows!

At the end of the sideshow below there are also three scrap collages inspired by the work of Van Gogh, Picasso and Frieda Khalo.
