What is Shine?
The Shine Programme is run under the auspices of The University of York and aims to support pupils from schools across Yorkshire, the Humber and North East to reach their full potential. Shine is open to pupils in Year 6 to 11 who have been identified by their school as being high achieving and are from a group that is currently under-represented at university.
By working with young people under 16, Shine aims to inspire, motivate and encourage pupils to achieve academic success and raise their aspirations towards higher education.
The year 11 SHINE students have now come to the end of their SHINE journey, marked with a conference at the University of York. They took part in workshops and presentations symbolizing a graduation from SHINE but if they go onto further education they will remain in contact with the SHINE organisers who will endeavour to help them to become a university student.
