100th Anniversary of the Battle of the Somme.
At a memorial event in Pontefract, Amber King, Liam Molloy and Thomas Mears read out the names of Pontefract soldiers who lost their lives during the "bloodiest" battle of the First World War. They were praised on their contribution and enthusiasm from the British Legion and Yorkshire Volunteers.
Alan Austin of the Volunteers commented,
"Our branch attended the Somme anniversary on the 1st of July in support of The Royal British Legion and were most impressed with the contribution that your students gave to the occasion.
Afterwards some of our Association members said it would be a nice thought if the students were given a reminder of the occasion as a thank you from the association. I have therefore designed a certificate making the three students Junior Associate Members as a symbolic gesture of our thanks."
Below are some photographs of Amber, Liam and Thomas receiving their certificates from members of the Yorkshire Volunteers & Yorkshire Regiment Association.
