Year 8 - Yorkshire Cup Quarter Final

The Year 8 Rugby Team played their Yorkshire Cup Quarter Final at Brigshaw High School today. Brigshaw posed a real test being the top ranked Leeds School and Carleton's task was made significantly harder losing captain Jake Stones and top try scorer CiaranMcGukin to injury and illness prior to the match.

The rest of the lads responded to this adversity incredibly well and produced a sensational performance. From the very start Carleton dominated physically and never gave the home team time to settle, a well executed set saw Liam Armstrong cross in the corner for the games first score. Carleton soon scored another try with Sam Wroe forcing his way over to take an 8 - 0 lead. Brigshaw worked hard to stay in the game and earned a well deserved try to reduce the deficit.

Sam Wroe scored again to take the lead back to 8 points before Liam Gee crossed after a outrageous dummy, this was converted by Wroe to finish the half with the score at 18 - 4.

The second half became a war of attrition with the Carleton boys defending resiliently up hill. Some massive tackles by forwards Brad Allsopp, Joe Knox, Joe Costello, Josh Wright and Harvey Sewell made Brigshaw's task even harder. Brigshaw did manage to score two unconverted tries to make the last couple of minutes very tense but, the first half dominance and second half spirited defence saw Carleton through to the Yorkshire Cup Semi Finals and subsequently qualify for the National Cup.

A fine performance gives hope that the boys can defend the Yorkshire Cup and potentially go a step further in the Nationals this year and reach the final!
